Last night finally decided to list my old 7D M2 for sale. Feeling very attached to the camera and thinking of cancelling it. But I really want to upgrade to R6 M2 to go mirror less. Would you say it’s good decision to sell it? Or should I keep it ?

Hello dear friend Jack! It's been a while.
I'm also like you. I get to feel attached as the time goes by using my gear.
The D7 MII is a great camera but the R6 II is a huge step forward! The fact that you move from an APSC sensor to FF is a huge benefit. Regardless of many youtubers or other people, trying to convince that there are no huge differences between the 2 sensor sizes reality is different.
You will have huge 'headroom' in you FF files to work on. Also the processor of the R6 MII is more advanced.

I would urge you to proceed and I very confident that you will be feeling very happy you did so as soon as you will take your first nice photos.

Wish you all the best Jack!

Hello panos_adgr panos_adgr , glad that you have found time to pop around on forum. Yes, it’s been a while since we have spoken here.

Yes, I’m thinking selling my 7DM2 , it’s 10 years old now, still takes images, but I want to move to FF mirrorless camera. Also I’m interested in video as I do YouTube. Hence why I want to get R6 M2.

I don’t really listen to all YouTubers, as sometime they don’t know what they are talking about or they just promote products.

I’m thinking of using my EF lenses with R6 M2, don’t plan to sell my Ef lenses at the moment. But in the future maybe ill add RF lenses, these are really expensive compared to EF lenses.

Would you say to keep EF lenses and just add RF lenses or sell and invest in new lenses ?

Glass is the best investment. If thay are compatible of course keep them. And you add new lenses in the future if needed.
I was thinking about the performance of the EF lenses attached on RF camera body. If they will perform as good as RF lenses.

Whatever the performance of new RF lenses is, it is good start with your EF lenses. You can upgrade in the future (if it is necessary) and make a smoother transition concerning money poured in the new system.
It took me about 3-4 years to completely transition from APSC to Full Frame System.

I don’t think I will sell my EF lenses, they are in mint condition and paid full brand new price. Selling for peanuts I will loose more money than I made.

I am thinking the same, to get rf glass in the future, also want to upgrade my drone maybe next year. 😂.

Have you sold your old lenses to upgrade to full frame ? Or you kept them once and just added new full frame lenses ?

Hello dear Jack and sorry for the late answer.
No I didn't sell any lens or gear at all.
I bought instead a Nikkor AF-S 24-120mm f/4 VR which was a disappointing buy.... It is soft on the edges and has bad performance beyond 85mm. I also bought another D850. I ended up owning 3 of them and I finally sold the oldest. So now I have 2 new D850 plus my D750 and D610. I'm not planning at all to move to mirrorless or changing system. For the kind of photography I'm doing there is no mirrorless camera that can offer me a significant improvement over the image quality of my D850s. I'm always seeking the best possible image quality and the rest are less important. I do not need intelligent AF systems and fancy non sense specs (for my objective needs).

As for the drone matter I'm also ready to go for a DJI Mavic 3 pro (fly more combo). It is a bit expensive but it is the only drone I would put my money on, because of the 4/3 sensor. I'm still thinking if I should spent the money. I have other hobbies as well, such as Hi Fi and 2024 was a year of many buys....

No problem panos_adgr panos_adgr . Glad you found time to come by. Are you still doing macro photography and landscape with the cameras you own?

my main reason for upgrade is video side. Which I want it for my YouTube channel.

Mavic 3 Pro is a good choice. If you ready, I would probably still wait if I were you, as seems mavic 4 pro is coming next year.

I still happy with my air 2s and mini 3 pro drones. Air2s is supers drone for the price, and images quality is outstanding. The mini drone gives me flexibility to fly in towns due of less restrictions.

What are the restrictions in your country ?

I do a lot of landscape photography but not macro although I like it a lot.
I should post some pictures sometime.

As for the drone I'm also thinking of waiting the Mavic 4 pro although it will not have major changes from Mavic 3 pro. At least this is what I read and watch. Anyways. I might go for the Mavic 3 pro. I'm very thoughtful though. I want it only for photography and for seeking new photography perspectives. And I wonder if it deserves that much money to do me exploration in photography perspectives....
I'm more of an impulse buyer. So it depends on what mood will I be whan I will make the decision.

And to be more specific when I say I'm an impulse buyer I mean in purchase making. Not in what to choose to buy. When it is a matter of choice I make extensive study.
This is why I'm interested in mavic 3 pro.

Mavic 3 Pro is a great drone, and you will enjoy it. I am not sure where you planning to fly it, or restrictions in your country. But here in UK, I need extra qualification to fly my air 2s in towns. I believe Mavic 3 Pro fails in the same category as air 2s, 500g above. If you want to fly it mostly in Forest and Mountains, Mavic 3 pro is a great choice, handle the wind very good. But if in town, maybe if I were you I will get mini 4 pro. Nice little drone with big capabilities.

Most of the time I fly my mini 3pro because less noise and less restrictions, my air 2s is a bit noisy, and people sometimes look weird :D.

You can check my aerials albums here. Some have been taken with air 2s and some with mini drone: https://iskymedia.io/prints/aerials/

But I do agree, gives different perspective to photography.

There are restrictions here as well. The restrictions are EU restrictions.
If I finally purchase it I should also have a license from the civil flight service. Which are some lessons and exams to get the license.
You can Fly it in A city but there are some more strict rules such as not taking of near crowds or keeping flight hight at an analogy of distance from the crowds or something....
It also needs a bounded space for take off andlanding etc.

I've done my study. I any case I'm not interested in anything different than the Mavic 3 pro because of its micro 4/3 sensor which is the largest I can afford. I want the dynamic range, resolution and image quality of the biggest sensor I can afford. I also want to have the versatility of the other two cameras / sensors.

I have no actual idea of drone handling. I have watched some tutorials and many videos and I have checked photos on Flickr.com.

Thanks for the link. I will check them Jack!

Looks like you have same restrictions as we have here in UK. When I want to take some drone images in city, I always go with mini drone, just because I don't want to have that extra attention. Here people are acting like you are spying on them, not sure maybe in your country, people are a bit friendly.

Flying them drones, are really easy. You will be surprised how easy are to fly them. You have all safety features built in, so nothing to worry about. Just make sure you handle the batteries safely. These are really expensive part of drones. And get combo, always good to have 3 batteries.

Thanks for the tips Jack!

People are the same everywhere... There is a park near my home where people Fly drones sometimes but I haven't seen anyone complaining. But generally there is always a suspicion even and when you are using your camera.

As for the restrictions yes you are right. If I get the drone I will get the license as well. The cost is between 25 to 50 euros depending on the license.

By the way you some realy nice aerial photos Jack!!!

I do agree, people look suspicious at you because they don't understand or know what you are doing.

I have flown my air 2s last summer next to US spy base where I live, had police next to me in 10 minutes :D. I was recording some videos of wind turbines, but I was surprised that they knew where I was. Obviously I wasn't flying inside the restricted area, but next to it.

Drones can be fun, but can end up you in a jai or spicy fine.
By the way you some realy nice aerial photos Jack!!!
Thanks a lot. I wish I could fly more and take more images, but the weather here in UK, is been rubbish lately, plus working full time, an other con. For this reason, I can't see myself getting or buying an other drone.

You country is more drone favourable. Would love to see your images when you get your drone.

By the way, we thinking to visit Greece next year :D.

Yes it needs caution. It is the same when you do normal photography.
I generally avoid shooting near locations of national security. I try to keep my distance and study well before I take pictures. I also read the law concerning my rights while photographing and once I had an argument with a security officer apologizing to me.
We have to know our rights well.
Most of the security people are not well educated and behave nasty. They allow people photographing with smartphones (some of which are high tech and hi res) with instant internet access and do not allow cameras.... It is out of logic completely!

Greece is a wonderful destination (not because I'm Greek) and before you come study well the place that you would like to visit. There so many nice choices. You mean for summer holidays, right?

I do agree with you here. Most people who has no knowledge about photography they don't understand. Same with drones, use to read some posts on Facebook that people complaining that drone are flying above their properties and someone spy on them :D. No one owns the air space. Should be the same in Greece as well.

I still think smartphones will replace the real cameras soon. I upgraded iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the images quality is amazing, but not comparable with a real camera, however with all new software, you can manipulate and edit and upscale any type of art nowadays. Not even talking about Ai, which is here, and soon will replace video as well.

Greece is a wonderful destination (not because I'm Greek) and before you come study well the place that you would like to visit. There so many nice choices. You mean for summer holidays, right?
Yes, we thinking about it next summer. Mainly to visit Athena. Never been in Greece, but heard is worth visiting.
