I took this quite early evening anddidn't have a clue how it would turn out. I knew there were boats because I could see shadows, but I didn't know their colours at all.

Critique and comments welcome please, I'm a bit of a learner.

Lovely sharp image Tony, with some wonderful reflections.
Well accomplished for 30sec exposure, the lights are not too bright and the overall image is nicely exposed
My only real critique is that the boats are too high up in the frame, and it would have been nice to see a little more sky by bringing the main subject boats down a little more towards centre frame. It just seems too tight at the top of the image at the moment with no room above the masts and hillside.

Thank you for the feedback. I'll give it another go on a nice evening, it was all just shadows so the composition was largely luck (or indeed maybe not so lucky as it is a little top heavy!)

Much appreciated

I agree with Andy, my other point to state is that the small boat, would need to go. Keep posting, I like your enthusiasm.

Fingers crossed the next calm sea night gives me the opportunity. The small boats are often 'shuttles' to and from the bigger boats, so hopefully they are not around!

The photo is fine, just use your software to remove the boat. Is it photoshop you use or another program/app?

I'm currently in the final days (hours) of a DxO PhotoLab trial, unsure whether to stick with that as it's very natural or to go for the Lightroom/Photoshop monthly fee. I didn't think of editing out as it's quite visually complex, but I have a quiet night ahead so maybe I'll have a go...

I have been using DXO PhotoLab for two or three years because I didn't want to pay for a computer program every month. DXO still makes a major update every year that I bought anyway... So, the result is more or less the same as a monthly payment ! But I don't have to buy every year...
Anyway, all this to say that I am very happy with DXO PhotoLab, especially with its noise reduction technique.
