Does anyone notice a price increased on lenses and cameras? I was looking last year at Canon 100-400 and was way much cheaper that what is listed now on the internet. So frustrated.

There is a price increase for quite some time now in all kinds of photo equipment. I do watch the market quite often. I like to watch gear and prices from time to time. Especially the las months I was checking the market because I wanted to buy an ultrawide zoom lens and I was a bit dissapointed. I finally got myself one but the prices have gone up indeed. I have pland in adding more lenses and prices are dissapointing.

Agree, I was looking at 100-400 II Canon, and the price for it, just went up to the sky. Unbelievable how they increased the price, is like the have painted it.

I'm just wondering why they have increased price? It's fair enough for last equipment, but for old one, they should keep the same price.

World wide prices are increasing on everything not just electronics and camera gear.
Global recession will put prices even higher going forward I believe.
Cost of logistics, warehouse space, fuel, import taxes, components etc have all increased which just adds to the cost of items to the end user.

The annoying part is tax. They should at least remove the tax or decrease it. We already paying too much tax.

You are absolutely right about this.
Here the tax for these kind of goods is 24%. It is insane. It would be OK if the tax was lower. We all understand that taxes are supposed to serve a purpose but not that high percentages!

I guess only a percentage from those tax paid by us is used for useful stuff. For certain things, the tax should be lower, if you think , we are paying tax for everything. Here in UK the tax is 20% but life is more expensive here too.

I've noticed that everything related to tech or electronics, is more expensive now.

Prices rise like being in a roller coaster. I hear all the time for price increases. Today I was informed that dairy products are expected to rise 30%.

Now in hobbies, the last 5 and more years things have changed. All manufacturers try to produce products that are one step different in technology offering all the time even higher prices... In audio for example all the hi-fi hi-end gear is extremely overpriced! Products that used to cost 3000-5000 euros in example today are marketed better and cost 10000+ euros. And I'm talking for products that have the same tech or components like previous models (especially in loudspeakers). The change the exterior (fancier) and raise the price.
Same with mirrorless cameras. They got rid of the complex mirror and pentaprism (optical viewfinder), product cost is lowered and prices are risen. And margin skyrockets. And I'm not saying that. It is a fact that can be found in quite a few articles.

Compare in example price between lens recipes (formulas) from the dslr era to mirrorless. And don't tell me that they evolved.... Not the lenses. The use a silent motor a couple of boards it aperture mechanism and that's it.
Compare the price of a Nikkor AF 14-24mm G to a Nikkor 14-24mm Z. The price difference is BIG!
Everybody is shifting in premium product logic with high price/margin and less sales, than low price / small margin to quantity sales.
And from the other side consumer products are also more expensive and more 'basic' than before.

I do feel your frustration. Here in UK is the same issue. I believe we are all facing same problem with price increases.

Regarding the tech, I think that’s what they do, they do some cosmetic changes, and they paint new price , higher than what it should be.

I think it’s pretty much is what happened to Canon 70-200IS L II and version III, they changed the colour of the lens .

In terms of mirrorless , this is something I want to migrate to mirrorless cameras, but I would rather invest in lenses than cameras right now, I see no reason buying RF lenses when EF are delivering good quality as well, and EF are still expensive lenses as well.

For the same reason and for others as well, I do not want to migrate to a mirrorless system. There is no real reason to sell my DSLRS and migrate to mirrorless. No reason at all. It is physics.
No small sensor can reach a full frame, sensor in signal to noise ratio, sensor saturation and dynamic range. I've had crop cameras and mirrorles. Full frame is by far superior in dynamic range, low noise, and usable dynamic range in shadows. All mirrorless use pixels rows for AF which introduce banding in shadow areas. It is mostly noticed when shadows are raised (with exception of fujifilm medium format GFX Series).
Mirrorless technology has advanced greatly but there are some fields that the technology needs to mature a bit more.
It is and was a common issue in all mirorless cameras. I had an a6000 sony which had this and I had difficulties in Post processing.
It is was an issue in the Z6 and Z7 nikon cameras, most sony's etc.
I do a lot of landscape and I cannot risk losing information due to sensor banding issues or other problems. Phase and contrast detect AF uses sensor resources, which are balanced with in camera processing algorithms to handle banding suppression. From all the mirrorless cameras the GFX series are succeeding in eliminating these issues.

Probably a GFX camera will be my next upgrade in the far future. For the moment I have 2 D850s that are giving me results beyond my expectations. Even my D610 which is already old tech delivers me outstanding results.
My D7200 which is supposed to be one of the best crop cameras doesn't reach the older D610 (full frame) in any aspect.

I like a lot Olympus cameras and if I would by one that would be an OMD EM 1X but with this amount of money Full Frame for me is the only way.

Generally I avoid tech and camera brand discussions. I choose the cameras I use strictly on sensor / image quality, Performance. Then come the rest.

Oh everyone has different needs so we have so many brands on markets and so lot of different cameras and lenses...
I'm very happy with Olympus, newdays OM Systems, it's giving me fully all I need! I still enjoy my OM Mark 10 III ! It's small I can get every where I need! Same as my favourite lenses, they travel all the time with me! Because I'm waiting for THE moments nature gives me! I would be never happy with have and big full frames cameras of another producents 😔. When I'll decide to buy another one new camera one day, it will be surely another Olympus! Same as I have a long list of lenses I want to buy in the future... 😁. I'm so happy with Olympus!
