.Abstract escape stairway - Lanscape - Lincoln 24-4-13.jpg
I saw this whilst shooting around Lincoln. I liked the abstract of it, but not sure if it really works. Subjective content? I guess it's down to each person's likes and dislikes.

Hey I have a question regarding this pic. Did you shoot in B&W or colour?
By the way, I think it works as a composition.
Your eye saw it.

Good question. And thank you for the compliment. I saw the design and knew I could do something with it, as it's the editing that finalises my images. I always shoot RAW and in colour. But, when editing, I rarely use a raw editor (lightroom) to change the colour to B&W. I do that in Photoshop, and leave it as an RGB file. RGB still allows me more play to edit on the different contrasts of B&W. That is, I can darken the blue sky if I wish, or any other colour within the grey lower scale and upper contrasts. Can't do that if its a grey scale image, just allows me more fine tuning. I know some will state that you can do the same in a raw editor, but I have always finalised my images in PS.

I intend to do some comparisons of shots in RAW and shots taken in B&W.
Many years ago I used to mix raw chemicals to create the exact B&W effects I was seeking.
Also choosing the paper very very carefully.
B&W photography seems elusive in digital.

I had a darkroom at 9 years old. I loved the processes of a darkroom. Now though its too expensive to even think of doing it. I love B&W and will look at both ways when editing.

I find the halo's very distracting here lightmuncher, I like the composition but the halo's are nasty.
Is this from sharpening, or from the process you use to bring out the B&W image? or did you change the sky at all?

Ooops thanks for the info. Will now reassess the image. I must have had my thumb up my ass whilst posting this. :unsure:o_O

these are two different images.
1 is a concept using B&W imaging and it works because of this
2 is a colour photo with a sharp contrast.
In my opinion the first is more original.
