Have you done it on purpose to highlight the subject ?

yes. I thought it was a bit much leaf/blurr to the right of the fly, so I cropped it to get the subject more in highlight.

Sometimes having something in the photo , gives a new composition and perspective. I very rarely crop my images.

For me that is true when it comes to landscape and other static objects. Chasing these flies around and it the same time get the composition I want was hard. Maybe Im just not quick enough

I know some people, they kill flies in order to take images 😆. Not the best way, but works for some. But you are right, chasing moving small insects takes time and not always good images.
