A revisit to this amazing temple in Roi Et, North Eastern Thailand.
One of the largest pagodas in Thailand, it is 101 meters long, 101 meters wide and 101 meters high and was built on a plot measuring 101 Rai, which is about 40 acres. The number 101 comes from the name of the province it is located in, Roi Et, which means 101 in Thai language.

I like this composition which gives the impression of a competition with the trees.

The temple is really a forest monastery Morexp57, built within a natural forest botanical garden area.
The Thai Forest buddhist tradition is the branch of Theravāda Buddhism in Thailand that most strictly upholds the original monastic rules of discipline laid down by the Buddha.
So the trees do play a very important role, which is why I wanted to incorporate them in the image.

Thanks Lightmuncher, I did get a few from inside also but haven't got round to processing them yet. I will post a few when I do as it is just as spectacular inside as it is outside.

I have a greater belief in Buddhism than I do Christianity. When we were in Nepal and Tibet back in the 90's I felt right at home in the Buddhist monasteries. Will see if I have any images to post, just for interest. Will look forward to seeing the interiors. Is there a place for internal architecture here?
