Budget probably around 400 and I'm really looking for something more versatile than an 85 especially because I have a cropped sensor for now

Then I would recommend 28mm, as you need to get as much as possible in the frame.

I have crop camera as well, and for landscape I use 24-70 lens.

For portraits I would say more 50mm, better choice.

Try to get a zoom lens instead of a prime one, you'll be able to cover landscape and portrait with one lens, and save some cash.

50 mm f/1.8 primes are often cheap enough to be a must in every camera bag Don´t know what camera you use.

I use a 85 but on a cropped z5ó so it's not very versatile. I was thinking maybe a 40 mm or a 35 mm to kinda have more versatility

Then I would go for a 35.

Personally have one, is around £110 in UK.
