As a photographer, do you have any external hard driver to store your images ?

I was looking recently at this one:

I use a few portable disk drives, not all for images though. I have separate drives for music, work related stuff, computer back ups. important documents and photos. I also have back ups of most of these on separate HDDs.
I like the Lacie rugged SSD and have a couple of 2TB ones. I also use 2TB WD 'My Passport Ultra".
I like the portability so I can take them with me if needed. Both are solid and reliable, with no issues so far.

I do think to buy one, I already own one of 5TB ,but unfortunately is full now . Even on my laptop I have no more space for images, especially that I do take videos as well now.

So have you experienced any issues with them ? I meant loosing data .

No issues with any of them Jack, have been using some of them for 6 or 7 years without problems.

Then I would buy one I guess. Slightly expensive, but hope the quality will be top.

The expense is an investment really Jack, as you never really want to be using cheap external storage just to save a few quid.
That being said, the only external HDD's I have ever had issues with were 2x Samsung, which suddenly just stopped working and no matter what I did I could not get any computer to recognise them. Lesson learned and never used Samsung again.

My laptop has 2Tb but still not enough. Because I have lots of images, plus movies, music, and other documents.

Would you recommend the one above mentioned by me? Agree, you get what you paid for.

For me the 1.7TB is more then enough. At the moment i have about 1500 photos in total on all drives. But a lot of them are duplicates. Never bothered to sort them out, maybe when i run out of space, or i might just buy an extra external ssd

WD are usually reliable drives Jack, I don't think you will have any problems with that one.

Thanks Andy Smith Andy Smith, I was looking for that product for a while. Maybe will wait a bit more to drop in price 😂.

Last year it was over £300

I've just received it. But slightly disappointed when I've checked free space on it.

It says 12TB, but only have 10.9TB, don't know why is that.

1GB is 1 billion bytes. Windows uses binary bytes, 1024 bytes per Kilobyte, 1024 KB per Megabyte and 1024 Megabyte per Terrabyte.

Thanks TMG1961 TMG1961 . I know you never get full size of the memory sticks or other hard drivers, but in this case there is 1TB 100GB missing.

I know, you also loose something when you format the drive. Drivers are never the size it says on the box.

That's slightly disappointing. Because the price for it, isn't cheap. I was expecting to be somewhere 11TB 500Gb but, with 1 TB + missing, isn't great deal.

It makes drives a bit more expensive. Problem is the bigger the drive the more you loose.

I think you right, most likely I will get in touch with them and make a complaint, who knows, maybe I’ll get some money back :D
