Manufacturers use decimal and define their storage as 12TB = 12 000 000 000 000 bytes - as 1KB = 1000 bytes.
Microsoft however, use binary and calculate things differently, as 1KB = 1024 bytes - so 12 TB to Microsoft is actually only 10.9 TB to everyone else.
It's just the way windows works

Alright, that's something I wasn't aware. So you saying the hard driver is 12TB?

Yes, you have 12 000 000 000 000 bytes space on your drive, which is 12TB.
You haven't lost any space, It's just windows reads it as 10.9TB

Like Andy said. The drive is the correct size but windows uses a different system, if you would use the drive on a macbook it would show as 12TB

Thanks Andy Smith , TMG1961 , learnt something new today. I just thought they scammed me, and instead of 12Tb, I got less . ))
