Yes. It depends on what you shot, but yes. I think that a zoom telephoto is very important to have.

Would love to get a proper wildlife lens, but these are really really pricey . I have my 70-300mm L lens, but it’s not near a proper wildlife lens. Plus I need gimbal for heavy lens too. Don’t think it’s practical holding couple of kg hand held.

It depends.
Third party are well priced and they are high quality.
I've watched and read many reviews for wide angle zooms. The two best that were made for F mount were the Nikkor 14-24mm and the Tamron 15-30mm. I chose the Tamron because it has Vibration Reduction where the Nikkor 14-24mm has none. Quality wise they are equal and in some cases the Tamron is better. I bought the Tamron and it is an outstanding lens! The Nikkor can be found at the same price as a Tamron in the second hand market. So my choice was not driven by cost. I paid 850 euros for the Tamron in mint condition (like new) and the Nikkor can be found even at 700 euros in mint condition. So it wasn't a matter of price.

It depends on the case / model. The Tamron 15-30G2 is considered one of the best wide angle zooms ever made. It is shoulder to shoulder in image quality with the very expensive Nikkor 14-24mm. The Tamron has also VR (where the Nikkor doesn't) plus hydrophobic front element coating. It is so sharp, that I wouldn't change this lens. It has minimum distortion and when angled properly almost none.

I also made a gift my self today Jack!
I bought the Nikkor AFS 24-70mm f/2.8 VR lens. It was a dream buy. It is a great standard zoom lens!

I need to look for that lens if they it for Canon too. I wasn’t aware that they do very quality lenses . I thought is better to stick with branded glass for better compatibility and better images quality.
